Toxins Hidden in Our Everyday Environment
Did you know that there are hidden toxins? From laundry detergent to the things you cook with toxins are all around you. Many things in our everyday lives are filled with toxic ingredients without you even knowing. Being aware of some of these ingredients is the first step in protecting ourselves and our children from harm. Let’s identify some of the common ones:
Self Care and Hygiene products:
Many of our favorite lotions, shampoos, and conditioners are laced with detrimental toxins, for example, parabens, or phthalates, that are affecting us in ways we don’t even realize. Topicals on our skin are quickly absorbed and many studies have found links between these toxins and cancer, hormone imbalances, and many other health issues.
Our cleaning supplies are also a common place for toxins to hide. Many are filled with harmful chemicals that are then spread from our countertops to the things we touch. U.S law allows manufacturers to use almost any ingredient that they please in their cleaning products. These include carcinogens and substances that can harm fetal and infant development and cause damage to our bodily systems.
Some of the most common vegetables and fruits in our refrigerators are covered with pesticides and chemicals. Many of these are even what we call “healthy” and so we don’t even think about what is sprayed on them and how they have been genetically modified.
What are some “healthy” and “unhealthy” foods that you should be aware of? You can start with what is called the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen.
